If you're here to discuss Burning Man or Burns in general, I'd suggest taking that over to the Southwestern Board, as the lists are being phased out. We enountered a common problem while running these lists - a group of apathetic users who dropped by with an attitude of "entertain me", refusing to give much back other than some occasional abuse. The entire concept of a mailing list can encourage this - the idea that one could (if allowed) just sit back and let the fun reading material drop into one's inbox, with no more work required out of one that that needed for one to log in. The convenience, itself, becomes a problem, with many coming to see the lack of exertion that they get used to as being a kind of entitlement. That expectation can become a problem if what one is trying to do, as a moderator, is build some kind of community.
Let's see if a board works out better - one that those who want to join will have to write to me about. (A few methods of doing so are mention on the board's homepage). The subject matter is now broader - not just Burning Man, but art, culture and travel throughout the Southwestern United States in general - and, I hope, the appeal will be broader as well and maybe a bit more enduring.
